Great projector calculation info at

I don’t usually post ‘hey look at this on the web’ type posts here at VLOBLIVE, as I like to focus on content, but this one is too good not to pass on.

Ever wondered what the throw distance of a projector is, or how the brightness is affected by the screen size etc. etc.

Pretty much every numerical calculation required to spec out a new projector is shown in the wonderful projector calculator at Projector Central .

Read on for more info on why this particular interactive calculator is so useful

There are a few basic numerical facts that are usually quoted when specifying video projectors. Brightness, sound level, resolution, contrast ratio etc.

These tell you something when comparing spec sheets, but they don’t always tell you what you REALLY want to know when you are considering buying or installing a projector.

Other questions about lens throw, brightness for given screen size, impact of screen gain, recommended seating distance etc. are all harder to find or to calculate.

Well the good folks at projector central have done all the hard work for you with their fantastic Flash based interactive projector calculator.Interactive Flash projector calculator

This great tool lets you play with throw distance, screen size, zoom range etc. to see if a given projector is going to work in a certain setup.

It even lets you try out different lenses.

One final point, don’t forget to hover your mouse over some of the sections, as you get really useful little tooltips that explain a bit about the information presented, e.g. the max room lighting bar at the top left.

I found this tool incredibly useful when shopping for a new projector recently so I wanted to pass it on.

When will VLOBlive be returning? I really miss reading your blog, and the lack of posts is a bit disappointing.
